Como Make History With 4-1 Win Over RB Leipzig on Champions League Debut

By Boris Anditi•September 11, 2026

119 years of history, one Champions League debut, and Como 1907 made sure it was unforgettable.
The Italian side thrashed RB Leipzig 4-1 at a revamped Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia on Wednesday night, marking the club’s first-ever appearance in any European competition since their founding in 1907. There was no sign of nerves — Como came out swinging from the first whistle and never let up.

Martin Baturina wrote his name into the club’s history books inside 15 minutes, pouncing on a loose ball after Tasos Douvikas’ low cross was only half-cleared to become the first player ever to score for Como in Europe. The Croatian midfielder turned provider soon after, teeing up Douvikas to make it 2-0 before the break. Assane Diao added a third early in the second half, racing beyond his marker to slot home from a Nico Paz assist.

RB Leipzig pulled one back through a stunning Andrija Maksimović strike, but it barely dented Como’s control of the night. Máximo Perrone put the result beyond doubt in stoppage time, finishing off another Nico Paz assist to seal the 4-1 scoreline.
Baturina capped his night by being named UEFA’s Player of the Match — fitting for a player already being talked up as the heir to Luka Modrić’s mantle, and one whose creative performance drew praise from UEFA’s own technical observers.

For Cesc Fàbregas’s side, this wasn’t just a good result — it was validation. Three promotions in six seasons brought Como back to Serie A, and now, in their very first European night, they’ve announced themselves on the continent’s biggest stage. Not a bad way to mark 119 years.
