The road to AFCON 2027 moved from the boardroom to the construction site today as Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed hosted top regional football dignitaries for a high-level inspection of Kenya’s flagship stadium project.

High-Level Synergy

The day began with a courtesy call to the Sports Principal Secretary, Elijah Mwangi, at his Nairobi office. The delegation was a "who’s who" of regional football leadership, featuring the newly elected CECAFA President Paulos Weldehaimanot (Eritrea) and Interim Executive Director Jean Sseninde.

The discussions centered on the "Pamoja" vision—a strategic partnership between the three host governments and football bodies to ensure the tournament serves as a catalyst for long-term infrastructure and economic growth in East Africa.

"Our collaboration with the government is the bedrock of this project," Hussein Mohammed noted. "We are not just building stadiums; we are building a regional legacy."

Inside the "Jewel in the Crown"

Following the meeting, the officials moved to the Talanta Sports City Stadium to see the progress firsthand. The ultra-modern 60,000-seater facility is the centerpiece of Kenya's hosting bid and is currently undergoing intensive interior works.

Regional Confidence

For CECAFA President Paulos Weldehaimanot, the visit was an opportunity to witness the "East African Spirit" in action. The delegation expressed satisfaction with the pace of the work, reaffirming that the tournament remains firmly on course for its June 2027 kick-off.

While domestic leagues face temporary disruptions due to the closure of venues like Kasarani and Nyayo for similar upgrades, the federation maintains that these "growing pains" are a necessary investment for what Mohammed promises will be a "spectacular and memorable" continental showpiece.
